Full detailAbout Principality Stadium
The Principality Stadium holds around 74,000 in three steep tiers close to the pitch, the home of Welsh rugby. The best views run along the halfway line in the middle tier, the loudest support is in the lower tier behind the posts, and the upper corners are the best value. Its retractable roof, often closed for internationals, traps and amplifies the noise. It hosts Wales Test matches including the Six Nations, plus football finals, concerts and other events.
Wales's national stadium in the heart of Cardiff, opened in 1999 with the first fully retractable roof in the UK. Three steep tiers rise close to the pitch, and with the roof closed it becomes a deafening indoor cauldron, one of the loudest atmospheres in world rugby.

Principality Stadium view from your seat
Lower tier, sideline
L4 to L14 (Westgate Street side) and L25 to L35 (River Taff side)Along the touchlines closest to the pitch, side on at low height. The front rows are close to play but give a flatter view of the far touchline, and the view improves a few rows back.
Tip: For WRU events, seats with extra handrails for ambulant fans are in L12 and L27.
Lower tier, behind the posts
South end L16 to L23, north end L37 to L42 and L1 to L2End on, looking straight down the pitch, with tries and kicks at your end right in front of you and the far end a long way off.
Tip: The north end sits under the two tier North Stand, which holds the WRU's 4,200 seat alcohol free zone. Check whether your block is in it before you buy.
Middle tier, sideline
M4 to M14 (Westgate Street side) and M25 to M35 (River Taff side)A raised, side on view across the full width of the pitch. Seats between the 22 metre lines are widely seen as the best in the stadium for rugby.
Tip: For the most central view, choose the blocks in the middle of each side, roughly M8 to M10 and M29 to M31.
Middle tier, ends and corners
South end M15 to M24, north corners M1 to M3 and M36 to M38A raised end on or corner view, higher than the lower tier behind the posts, so depth down the pitch is easier to judge.
Tip: The North Stand has no middle tier across its centre, only the corner M blocks.
Upper tier, sideline
U4 to U14 (Westgate Street side) and U25 to U35 (River Taff side)The top ring of the bowl, with a high, panoramic side on view of the whole pitch and the roof. The tier is big and steep, so the back rows are a long climb and far from play.
Tip: The fan zone is in U9 and U10, so expect more activity round those blocks before kick off.
Upper tier ends and the North Stand
South end U15 to U24, north corners U1 to U3 and U36 to U38, North Stand N1 to N4 and UN1 to UN4A high, end on view down the length of the pitch. The North Stand is the surviving part of the old National Stadium and has two tiers instead of three, with N1 to N4 and UN1 to UN4 above the lower L blocks.
How Principality Stadium seat numbers work
Blocks use a letter for the tier and a number for the position: L1 to L42 is the lower tier, M1 to M38 the middle tier and U1 to U38 the upper tier, and the North Stand also has N1 to N4 and UN1 to UN4. On the stadium plan, L1 is at the Castle Street end on the Westgate Street side, and the numbers run along Westgate Street, round the Wood Street end, back along the River Taff side and round the Castle Street end. The M and U tiers follow the same pattern. Your block, row, seat, aisle and entry gate are all printed on your ticket.
Reading a ticket: Block U21: U means the upper tier, and 21 puts you at the Wood Street end behind the posts. Follow the aisle printed on your ticket, and use the entry gate printed on it too, because gates are allocated per ticket.
Principality Stadium floor plan for concerts
The stadium has a curtain system that sets capacity for smaller shows, and the layout changes with each tour, so check the plan for your event. Some tours go in the round: for Ed Sheeran in 2022 the stadium describes a 360 degree stage in the centre of the floor, with all three tiers sold and standing tickets on the floor.
The floor: The pitch is usually general admission standing. It is flat, so a tall crowd in front can block your view.
For an end stage show, the Westgate Street and River Taff sideline blocks give a side on view, the end opposite the stage gives the straight on but most distant view, and seats round and behind the stage may be closed or sold as restricted view depending on the tour.

Food & drink at Principality Stadium
Principality Stadium's concourse catering has been overhauled under a new partnership with Aramark UK, with a stronger emphasis on Welsh suppliers and a trader-residency scheme for local vendors. Pies remain the staple — Celtic Welsh pies feature on the menu — joined by newer additions such as salt and chilli chicken tenders with curry sauce and samosa chaat, plus doughnuts from local maker Planet Doughnut. Beer on the concourses is lower-strength 4.1% Amstel, which the WRU phased in to replace 5% Heineken.
Bars operate the Challenge 21 age-verification policy, and a permanent 4,200-capacity alcohol-free zone runs in the North Stand. Free drinking-water stations are provided throughout the stadium.
