Full detailAbout Stadio Olimpico
The Stadio Olimpico holds around 70,000 and is shared by AS Roma and SS Lazio, who each take the home end when they play. The two curve behind the goals — Curva Sud for Roma, Curva Nord for Lazio — hold the ultras and the loudest support, while the long Tribuna Monte Mario is the covered main stand and Tribuna Tevere faces it. Best overall views are from the central Monte Mario; the running track pushes fans back from the action everywhere. Beyond football it hosts Italy’s rugby Six Nations matches, the Golden Gala athletics meeting and major concerts.
A vast bowl inside the Foro Italico sports complex beneath Monte Mario, ringed by a translucent polycarbonate canopy added for the 1990 World Cup that covers every stand. An athletics track separates the crowd from the pitch, so sightlines are open but a little distant compared with English-style grounds.

Stadio Olimpico seating capacity and layouts
The Stadio Olimpico seating capacity is about 70,634 seats. The number in use changes with the layout, so here is how each set-up works.
Serie A / domestic football
Roma and Lazio each designate the Curva Sud or Curva Nord as their home ultras end depending on who is hosting, with the rival curva given to away or neutral fans.
European nights
Champions League and Europa League games use a similar layout with a segregated away allocation, usually in a corner of the Curva Nord or Distinti sectors.
Concerts / rugby / athletics
Hosts Italy’s Six Nations rugby fixtures and the Golden Gala athletics meeting; for concerts a stage fills one end and the pitch becomes standing floor, cutting the running-track distance.
Seating levels explained
Tribuna Monte MarioTribuna Monte Mario / Monte Mario Top
The main west grandstand, fully covered, with the halfway line, dugouts and press facilities.
Pros: Best central sightlines, covered, closest to the centre circle.
Cons: Most expensive, and the track still sets you back from the pitch.
Tribuna TevereTribuna Tevere / Tevere Top
The east side stand opposite Monte Mario, also a good all-round view of the game.
Pros: Central side view at a lower price than Monte Mario, well covered.
Cons: Faces the sun in the afternoon and is a touch further from the tunnel side action.
Curva Sud / Curva NordCurva Sud, Curva Nord
The two ends behind the goals, home to the ultras of whichever club is hosting.
Pros: The atmosphere, singing and choreography — the heart of the ground.
Cons: Behind-goal angle, standing/surging crowds and the biggest track gap.
DistintiDistinti Nord / Distinti Sud
The curved corner sectors linking the curve to the side stands.
Pros: Cheaper, angled view of the whole pitch, near the atmosphere.
Cons: Corner sightlines and some sections have restricted rows low down.

Seats to avoid & obstructed views
Front rows of any tier: The athletics track sits between you and the touchline, so the pitch feels distant and low action is partly hidden.
Distinti corners, low blocks: Sharp angle across the pitch and occasional advertising-hoarding obstruction near the corner flag.
Rear Curva rows: Very far from the far goal and behind the most restless standing support.
Sectors on the segregation line: Netting and a buffer zone between home and away fans can clip your view and dampen atmosphere.
Accessibility & companion seating
Dedicated wheelchair and companion positions are provided with step-free access; these should be booked in advance through the hosting club’s ticket office rather than bought on general sale. Accessible parking and assistance are available on request.
Where: Wheelchair positions sit at the front of the Distinti and lower Tribuna areas with pitch-level access points.
Food & drink at Stadio Olimpico
Catering inside the Olimpico is basic concession fare: kiosks on the concourses sell hot dogs, popcorn, crisps, soft drinks and beer, and most regulars rate it below the food vans and kiosks that ring the stadium around Piazza Mancini and Ponte Duca d'Aosta, where panini, pizza slices and cutlet sandwiches are the pre-match staples. The Trapizzino stand near Ponte Milvio, selling stuffed pizza triangles with Roman fillings, is a favoured stop on the walk in.
Simple food such as sandwiches and pizza may be brought in, but drinks in bottles or other containers are not permitted.
Worth seeking out
- Beer, hot dogs and popcorn from concourse kiosks
- Food vans around Piazza Mancini before the match
- Trapizzino stuffed pizza pockets near Ponte Milvio

How to get to Stadio Olimpico
Transport
Take Metro Line A to Flaminio, then tram 2 up to Piazza Mancini and walk about 10 minutes across the Tiber via Ponte Duca d’Aosta; buses 32, 271 and 280 also serve the Foro Italico. Parking is limited and streets close on matchdays, so public transport is strongly advised.
The area
The stadium sits in the Foro Italico, a 1930s riverside sports park north of the centre, next to the Stadio dei Marmi and the Tennis Foro Italico. It is a green, monumental setting rather than a residential district, with bars clustered around Ponte Milvio a short walk away.
