Where to watch the Chinese Grand Prix

For the full Grand Prix experience at the Chinese Grand Prix, the pick is Grandstand A (Platinum / High / Low) — Start, finish, pit stops and podium from the vast covered main stand — the best overall seat in Shanghai. For on-track action, head to Grandstands H & K. The budget option is Grandstand E (CN¥1,580 (3-day, 2026 list)). The Chinese Grand Prix runs 16–18 April 2027 at Shanghai International Circuit, Shanghai — Round 5 of the 2027 Formula 1 season.

Overview

About the Chinese Grand Prix

The Chinese Grand Prix returns to its mid-April slot in 2027. Shanghai International Circuit — with its vast lotus-inspired main grandstand and one of the longest straights in F1 — is a genuine overtaking circuit, and tickets remain among the most affordable on the calendar.

The 5.451 km Hermann Tilke layout opens with the famous ever-tightening Turns 1–2 spiral and ends with a 1.2 km back straight into the heavy-braking Turn 14 hairpin — the best passing spot on the lap and the home of grandstands H and K. The track has hosted the Chinese Grand Prix since 2004 and rewards cars with strong traction and braking stability, which usually means visible, committed driving from the stands.

Shanghai International Circuit viewing areas compared

Shanghai’s long main straight and tightening opening complex reward different ticket choices. Check the current stand plan for which corners and screens a given block actually sees.

Main Grandstand

Grid, pit straight and the overhead roof architecture.

Consider: The angle to Turn 1 depends on section; compare a corner stand if braking action is the priority.

Turn 1 / B-area stand

Watch the field compress through the long first-corner sequence.

Consider: Seat blocks vary in how far they see into the following turns.

Turn 14 / hairpin area

The heavy braking zone at the end of the long back straight.

Consider: Far from the pit-straight ceremony; match the entrance and screen before booking.

Chinese Grand Prix hospitality options

Compare a dedicated circuit or F1 hospitality product with a reserved grandstand on the same days. A premium lounge may include dining and a terrace, but the location and activity schedule control its value.

Paddock Club or premium suite

Pit-building or dedicated premium viewing with catering according to the specific package.

Consider: Verify the suite location, day span and any included pit-lane activity; these are not general paddock passes.

Reserved main or corner stand

A fixed seat can prioritise a particular on-track view at a lower total.

Consider: Food, drinks and transit normally need separate budgeting.

Getting to Shanghai International Circuit and back

Metro Line 11 reaches Shanghai Circuit station in Jiading directly. The return train and the walk to the correct gate are part of the journey.

Metro Line 11

Travel from central Shanghai towards Shanghai Circuit station, then follow the current event pedestrian route.

Consider: Allow roughly an hour from the centre plus station and gate queues; verify service hours for race day.

Taxi or arranged car

Useful with luggage or a group staying away from Line 11.

Consider: Check the organiser’s drop-off and road closures; post-race pickup may be slower than rail.

Stay near the circuit

Reduce the morning transfer if a suitable Jiading property is available.

Consider: Check its actual walking route and evening transit or dining options.

Parking at Shanghai International Circuit for the Chinese Grand Prix

Do not assume a city driving route can reach your gate on race day. Use the current Shanghai International Circuit event parking and traffic plan if driving; Line 11 is the straightforward alternative from central Shanghai. No 2027 public-parking price is verified here.

Hotels near Shanghai International Circuit: where to stay for the Chinese Grand Prix

Choose your base around Line 11 or a deliberate short circuit journey.

Central Shanghai near Line 11

Much greater hotel and restaurant choice with direct metro access.

Consider: Price an hour-scale journey each way and leave time for crowded platforms.

Jiading

A shorter approach to Shanghai International Circuit.

Consider: Check the hotel-to-gate route and whether you want evenings in central Shanghai.

Jiangsu Road / Xujiahui interchange areas

City neighbourhoods with useful Line 11 access.

Consider: Verify your property’s walk to the station and the last return train.

Compare hotels for your race-weekend dates →

What will a Chinese Grand Prix weekend cost?

Compare a city hotel plus metro with a nearer Jiading stay. Use the current ticket cart and dated rooms; past ticket releases do not define a 2027 total.

  • Ticket: use the exact Main, corner or hospitality product and the relevant number of days.
  • Transport: price airport-to-hotel transfer and Line 11 journeys for each spectator, or a car and confirmed parking.
  • Stay: compare the race nights near Line 11 with Jiading, including the hotel’s cancellation policy.
  • Food: allow for circuit meals and dinner after the return train unless a premium package includes catering.

Supplier prices and event transport can change. Any previous-season figure is labelled with its year; check the final cart before paying.

Food and drink at and after the race

At the circuit

Use the current fan-zone and concession map; check payment methods and the food allowance of any hospitality ticket.

After the race

A central hotel gives broad dining choices around your Line 11 arrival station; Jiading can save the long return but has a more local evening selection. Confirm closing hours after Sunday racing.

Practical tips and accessibility

  • Set up a usable local payment method and offline address for your hotel before travel.
  • Keep the station-to-gate walk and possible platform queues in your schedule.
  • Check travel entry requirements and the event’s current ticket identity rules before departure.

Visitor details reviewed 2026-09-27. Check the organiser again when the 2027 event instructions are released.

Race-weekend tips

Insider tips for the Chinese Grand Prix

  • Tickets are personalised with passport details and entry uses facial recognition — double-check every attendee’s details at purchase.
  • H and K at the Turn 14 hairpin are the enthusiast picks: every serious overtake happens in front of you.
  • April in Shanghai is mild but wet spells are common — bring a light rain layer for the uncovered areas.
  • Set up Alipay or WeChat Pay before you travel; China is effectively cashless, including at the circuit.
Logistics

Getting there & where to stay

Transport

The circuit is in Jiading, about 40 km north-west of downtown Shanghai. Metro Line 11 runs directly to Shanghai Circuit station, which is the way most fans arrive — allow 60–75 minutes from the city centre. Taxis and Didi are plentiful but get caught in post-race queues; the metro runs late and is the reliable choice on Sunday night.

Where to stay

Stay in central Shanghai — Jing’an, People’s Square or along Line 11 — rather than near the circuit. Jiading has limited hotels, while the city has thousands at every price point, and the metro makes the commute trivial. Race weekend barely dents Shanghai’s hotel supply, but international-payment-friendly hotels near a Line 11 station are the smart pick.
